Cleaning Tips

Stuck Glasses
To separate glasses that are stuck together, place ice cubes in the top glass and put the bottom glass in hot water.

Oily Bottles
To clean the inside of an oily bottle, add two tablespoons of ammonia and fill with cold water. Close top, shake well, drain, and rinse several times with soap and water.

Tarnished Silver
Make a paste of salt and water. Scrub with a soft cloth and rinse.

Tarnished Copper
Add one tablespoon of salt to one lemon half and scrub. Rinse off.

Stain Remedies

Ink Removal
Rub stain with milk, rinse, and wash.

Red Wine Stains
Add stained fabric to a solution of 1/4 milk to 3/4 water. Bring to a boil and simmer for three to four minutes, or until stain is gone. Wash as usual.

Alcohol Stains
Place a stained fabric over a large bowl and rubberband it taut. Add salt to the stain and pour boiling water over it. Only do this on washable fabrics.

Candle Wax
Scrape off as much wax as possible. Place the stained fabric on an ironing board or counter. Place a few layers of napkins or paper towels underneath and on top of the wax stain. Iron over the paper towels or napkins with a high/cotton setting. The wax will melt into the towels or tissue. Keep adding fresh towels on top and underneath until wax is removed. Wash as usual.

Blood Stains
Scrub fresh stains with cold water and detergent. Keep rinsing and scrubbing until removed. On old blood stains add a few drops of diluted ammonia on the stain and then wash. Only do this on washable fabrics.

Makeup Stains
Add detergent to stains and wash as usual. Only do this on washable fabrics.

Coffee or Tea
Stretch and fasten stained fabric over bowl. Pour hot water over stain. Only do this on washable fabrics.

Chocolate
Soak in cold water for 45 minutes or more. Scrub stain with detergent, rinse, and wash in cold water. Only do this on washable fabrics.
