Fabric Lamp Shades

This is a great way to dress ups old lampshades you can stand anymore and a fantastic way to turn an inexpensive dime-store shade into and expensive store-bought look-a-like. Now sewing required-just a lampshade, a glue gun, and a half yard of fabric!

Materials: one half yard of fabric-try using scraps from an old dress or silk shirt you don't use anymore, glue gun, scissors, inexpensive lampshade

Total Cost: $10

Total Time: 30 minutes

Directions: Lay out your fabric on your work surface wrong side up. Place your lamp shade in the center of the fabric. Roll the fabric around the shade to make sure you have enough to cover it. Apply glue in the shade in one line, top to bottom, and attach one end of the fabric. Let dry. Now roll the fabric around till you meet the first glued down end. Cut any excess fabric off with pinking shears so the second edge lays right on top of the first edge. Apply glue and let dry. You will probably have a lot of excess fabric on the top and bottom of the shade now. Trim this off with scissors allowing one inch to fold over and under the shade. Apply glue to the fabric and tuck over the edges. Finally, glue on any appliques or beads with the glue gun. If you are using a fabric like terry cloth, you may need to apply more glue to the lampshade for a smooth effect. However, glue will show through like cotton, so in that case glue only the edges.
